Are You A Victim?

Do you often ask yourself "Why is this happening to ME!?" or "What did I do to deserve this?" If so, you are asking yourself the wrong questions. Instead you should be asking "what am I supposed to learn from this?" or "what is this situation

trying to show me?" Especially, if you find yourself repeating the same situations over and over in life. Instead of responding "not again!" ask yourself what can you do differently in the situation this time around. If you do not change than nothing changes. How can we expect different results if we approach a situation the same? We cannot! My 10th grade English teacher once told me "If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got" and I've never forgotten that phrase.

“Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don’t have to like it… it’s just easier if you do.”

— Byron Katie

Everything is working in your favor whether you understand it or not! In the black community we have an unhealthy habit playing the victim in various areas of our lives. Trust me, if anyone is aware of our systematic oppression it is I. Sometimes it is true but other times it is nothing but a figment of our imagination. If you automatically assume you are being discriminated against than you create imaginary boundaries that you'll never be able to free yourself from.

You have to be consciously aware of your perspective on victimization because if you are not than you will never truly progress through life happy. You will be a grown ass adult looking for handouts and expecting people to feel sorry for you. Beloved, I am here to tell you that will hardly ever happen. Life happens FOR you, not to you! Everything is a lesson, the bad and the good. True, it is easier to hold others accountable for our short-comings but when we escape accountability we are escaping personal growth. Change your perspective and you change your life! You are not a victim, you are a fighter/survivor!

“Today is a new day. Don't let your history interfere with your destiny! Let today be the day you stop being a victim of your circumstances and start taking action towards the life you want. You have the power and the time to shape your life. Break free from the poisonous victim mentality and embrace the truth of your greatness. You were not meant for a mundane or mediocre life!” ― Steve Maraboli
