You Are The Main Character!

If not you, then who!? You need to be a little more dramatic about your life. A teeny more romanticizing of your daily habits. A hint more excited for your small wins. Those movies you love to watch, imagine those same camera angles in your real life. So far as we know, we only do this life thing once. Don’t you want that romantic comedy that you end up crying and clapping at the end!? We all do (the sane ones, at least). You can have it. I’ve spent a good amount of time saying “wow, wouldn’t that be amazing if it happened in real life.” But why can’t it? Like I said, why not me? Why not you?

“Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.”

— Jim Rohn

They say if you knew better, you’d do better. That’s what we all think until we’re in situations that call us to change a small habit to work towards a better one. “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy discusses this tactic. When you think about it, it’s kind of common sense. Instead of spending your four hours of free time a day watching TV or scrolling through Instagram/TikTok you could read a book, pick up/develop a new hobby (maybe a hobby that brings another stream of income), things like that. But when it finally comes time after working all day, commuting through traffic, dealing with random or not so random idiots, potentially coming home to children, and then spend what little time you do have to be disciplined…. There’s the battle!! Putting it into practice. This doesn’t even have to be about money. It can be something small like a facial routine before bed every night. Pick some sort of perpetual, good habit and stay the course! Once that good act becomes a habit, pick another to replace, and so on. I do want you to remember that everything takes time. But you don’t want to look back, next year, and wish you started today.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

— Maya Angelou

If you’re like me, you save the better half of your outfits for an occasion. Matter fact, an occasion that never comes! Girl, wear that outfit TODAY! Like the title of this blog, you are already the main character. You never know what doors will open for you by dressing your best every day. Take it as showing up for yourself. But I’m not going to lie and say you won’t catch me in a Bummy Chic ensemble every now and again, because you will! But when you look good, you feel good, and you ooze confidence. Remember sis, that fake camera is always watching…. As the protagonist, you shouldn’t be caught DEAD pouring from an empty cup unless the climax is building! That’s a play on words if you catch my drift. You’re out here looking raggedy because you can’t set boundaries in 2024? Please, do better.

“If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.”

— Dolly Parton

There will never be a time in your life that you can’t reinvent yourself. Start today, start yesterday! Pick up new hobbies, meet new people, go new places, move to another state, try new foods, wear only one color for a week straight, cut your hair, get that tattoo, pick a random Pandora station to listen to, literally anything! Who you once were only plays a small portion of who you are today. I want you to remember that anything that isn’t growing is dead. Don’t die at 25, only to pass on at 70. Life is so worth living, let us begin to exude that Main Character Energy!!!
