Self-Infliction

J. Cole once said “sometimes I think pain is just a lack of understanding. If we could only understand it all, would we feel no pain?”

But that’s a “what if” question and I’m not too sure anyone will be able to accomplish that. There’s always going to be things we can’t understand because we can’t relate to them. Pain is inevitable; We often torture ourselves through memories. You need to learn to forgive yourself:

Forgive yourself for that failed relationship. Forgive yourself for spending that money you know you needed for something important on something less important. Forgive yourself for the times you knew better but still did it anyways. Forgive yourself for every time you fed yourself negativity. Forgive yourself for being toxic to people who didn’t deserve it. Forgive yourself for what you can’t take back. Forgive the times you hurt yourself because self-inflicting pain was easier than the hurt you were going through.

Forgive yourself for putting up with shyt you didn't have to. Forgive yourself for your anger, when words just wouldn’t cut it. Forgive yourself for cheating, Forgive your parents for projecting their pain onto you. Forgive yourself for that “missed” opportunity. Forgive yourself for not doing better in school, do better now.

"Be courageous enough to forgive yourself; never forget to be compassionate to yourself".

-Debasish Mridha

The past is for lessons, to do better than we’ve done before, not for eternal torment. We are meant to grow, we are meant to make mistakes. Don’t be that person that spends all your time loving, forgiving, and nurturing others that you forget you are the center of your life! It would not exist without you. Start today by doing better than yesterday and then repeat the same thing tomorrow.

"Embrace and love all of yourself - past, present, and future. Forgive yourself quickly and as often as necessary. Encourage yourself. Tell yourself good things about yourself." -Melody Beattie
